1. What Lactovaginal is and what it is used for
The active substance of Lactovaginal is live lactic acid bacteria of the Lactobacillus rhamnosus 573 strain.
These bacteria break down the compounds present in the vagina into lactic acid, thereby maintaining the correct acidity (pH) of the vagina. The acidic reaction of the vagina (pH 4.0-4.7) inhibits the growth of pathogenic bacteria. The use of Lactovaginal after previous treatment of vaginal inflammation with antibacterial, anti-trichomic and antifungal drugs has been shown to reduce the number of pathogenic microorganisms, restore the natural microbiological balance in the vagina and normalize vaginal discharge.
Probiotic preparations containing live Lactobacillus bacteria are recommended to be used in the case of disorders of the vaginal flora, which occur, for example, during the use of antibiotics, hormonal changes, stress or in the case of poor hygiene and sexual habits.
Intended use
Lactovaginal is used in women and girls over 16 years of age to restore or supplement the normal vaginal flora. The drug is recommended to be used:
- prophylactically,
- in inflammation of the reproductive organs, after treatment with antibacterial, anti-trichomic or antifungal drugs,
- in the presence of vaginal discharge.
2. What you need to know before you use Lactovaginal
Do not use Lactovaginal
- if you are allergic to Lactobacillus or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6), such as itching or burning after using the medicine.
Warnings and Precautions
Take special care if you have a severe disorder of the immune system. In this case, talk to your doctor before starting Lactovaginal.
Other drugs and lactovaginal
Lactovaginal should not be used concomitantly with antibacterial, anti-trichomonas or antifungal drugs (except metronidazole and co-trimoxazole),
as they can kill L. rhamnosus 573 or inhibit their growth.
Lactobacillus rhamnosus 573 resistance to co-trimoxazole and metronidazole has been confirmed, therefore Lactovaginal can be used during treatment with these drugs.
Tell the doctor or pharmacist about all the drugs the patient is taking now or recently, as well as about the drugs that the patient plans to take.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Driving vehicles and operating machinery
Lactovaginal has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
3. How to use Lactovaginal
The recommended dose is 1 to 2 capsules a day (one in the morning and one at night) for 1 week. If necessary, the treatment can be repeated after consulting your doctor. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
The capsule should be placed deep in the vagina, maintaining the principles of personal hygiene.
If you use more Lactovaginal than you should
The higher dose of the drug does not pose any risk to the patient.
If you forget to use Lactovaginal
If you have forgotten to take Lactovaginal, just take the next dose at the usual time.
Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse, including any side effects not listed in this leaflet.
